October 10, 2011

By Chris and A.J.
We started our day by watching a movie called "Despicable Me."  We watched it for awhile and then we went to Library.  After Library we did writing.  In writing we did free write.  We watched a Social Studies video about French exploration of Canada.  We had to write three facts in our content notebook.  We read in Social Studies after the movie about other nations exploring.  We came back from lunch and our 90 minute reading block.  Then we had a mini-lesson on point of view.  After our 90 minute reading block it was dismissal.

We had a guest teacher today - Mrs. Curwick.  Mrs. Lawson was working with the Reading Team at school.
Today in math we worked on problem solving.  We did story problems.  We worked with a dictionary on dictionary skills.  We did our Daily Language Review.   In Social Studies we learned about Marco Polo.  He sailed to Asia and wrote a book about it.  We learned about other explorers too - Vepecci, Balboa, Cabot and Magellen.  While we read in Social Studies we found all the different text features that help us understand reading. During CAFE we worked on Author's Purpose and Making Judgements.
At the end of the day, we worked in partners using nonfiction books on identifying text structure.
It was also Rashad's birthday.

Today we did morning work.  It was called Daily Language Review.  Then Room 23 went to Library.  After Library, we did PEP.  PEP is where you work out by running in place and stuff.  Next, was writing.  We wrote about stuff (example: pizza) and not saying the word.  Lunch was delicious.  After lunch was Recess.  Mrs. Lawson read us a book called Peak.  Then we had to leave.  Would you think that was a good day?

Today we practiced our daily skill review for the weekly test on Fridays.  Also, we had a Science test that we've had practice for using experiments.
In math we are starting with dividing four digits by two digits and we are doing these in math groups.  In writing we had to write a story based on show not tell.  That was really fun!  We did plot structure using the Brady Bunch.  In CAFE, we studied, we listened to Peak and Yoko, and worked on story elements.

Today we talked about how scientists work.  We did an experiment on how many pennies a raft can carry.  We had to plan and do all the steps.  Then we had to see if it sank or not.
In CAFE, we read Rumplestiltskin and talked about plot structure.  IN math we talked about dividing by two digits.  That was our day.
